Wheat Grass & Diabetes Mellitus
Do blood sugar measurements become a worrisome issue to you because of irregular sugar values either before or after eating? Therefore, we need to know how the human body adjusts blood sugar and what are the types of sugar therein? What are the sugar source?
The body usually gets glucose when you eat foods containing carbohydrates in the form of polysaccharides that found in rice or bread or noodles, or in the form of mono- and disaccharides that are found in table sugar, jam, or fruit, etc. In both cases whether foods contains polysaccharides that made up monosaccharides like glucose, fructose, galactose, or they contain mono- and disaccharides, the digestive system, starting from the mouth, processes food through hydrolyzing reactions. These reactions include the secretion of sugar-hydrolyzing enzymes such as oral and pancreatic amylase, maltase, lactase, and others that eventually lead to convert food sugars inside the intestine into single sugars consists of one molecule only. Most of these converted sugars consist of glucose, which is considered the first source of energy and carried by the blood to reach all the organs and tissues of the human body, especially the brain. It is characterized by its ability to enter the cells only in the presence of insulin. Among other monosaccharides that result from the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, is fructose, which is used as fuel in the cells, and can be converted into glucose in the liver. There are some complex structures of carbohydrates in the human body in the form of fibers that are indigestible such as cellulose, but they are digestible in animals, due to the presence of specific enzymes that can digest cellulose fibers.
Since these specific enzymes are not present in human body, cellulose fibers remain in the intestine and help significantly in improving the bowel function and in preventing constipation in addition to many other benefits.
The monosaccharides resulted by the digestion of carbohydrates in the intestinal lumen are absorbed through the intestinal wall into the blood capillaries to enter the blood stream. According to the composition of food the uptake rate of glucose into the blood varies.
There are foods of high-sugar-index, they are absorbed faster upon ingestion in the intestinal tract if compared with these foods of low-sugar-index, which are absorbed slower. The later can cause a gradual increase in the blood sugar. Therefore, diabetes-patients are recommended to have these low-glucose index foods. In all cases the entrance of glucose in blood is considered a permission signal to the pancreas to release the Insulin. This hormone facilitate the entrance of glucose (the first energy source) into the tissue and cells, especially into the liver and muscles cells. Then glucose is transferred into the energy-generators in these cells which are known as mitochondria. Thus, glucose is dissociated there in the presence of oxygen to obtain the energy in form of ATP molecules.
Based on our expertise and experiences that we acquired
through applying the synergistic principle of Quran, we recommend using the extract
of wheatgrass in natural virgin olive oil because it had been proven by a
study published in Journal of Food Biochemistry in 2011 that the phenolic compounds
of olive oil lower the sugar levels through inhibiting of the enzymes α-glucosidase
and α-amylase. These two enzymes are responsible for the digestion of
carbohydrates and converting them into monosaccharides, and once they are
inhibited by the phenolic compounds of olive oil, less monosaccharides will be
released in the blood. It is worth mentioning that the intestine does not
absorb any type of carbohydrates, proteins or fats, unless they already broken
up into their building blocks. Hence, natural virgin olive oil that we use as
extract preservative to wheatgrass in our products lowers sugar level that
generated from food digestion, and contributes to the reduction of glucose
molecules in the blood by reducing absorbed glucose. (Loizzo et.al,
2011)
We recommend you to use our product that has the aqueous extract of wheatgrass in natural apple cider vinegar. Because it was proven that the extract preservative contains quercetin, which is one of the basic components of the apple (Boyer et.al, 2004)
Quercetin works on inhibiting of
the enzymes α-glucosidase and α-amylase that are the responsible for digesting
carbohydrates in the body and the generation of glucose molecules in the blood.
This inhibition leads to reduce the proportion of glucose and other
monosaccharides in the blood (Kumar
